‘Research’ is the current buzzword in the artworld. What kind of research is this? How is it undertaken? Does it introduce a new way of working?
Artists, designers and theorists will explore these questions with their own work as a starting point. They will discuss the exchange between making and thinking, and the socio-critical questions art poses.
The programme is composed of a keynote lecture by artist Stephan Dillemuth (1954, DE) and six short lectures by: Thomas Lommée (1979, BE), Sophie Krier (1976, LUX), Paulien Oltheten (1982, NL), Sher Doruff (1950, USA), Aimée Zito Lema, (1982, ARG) and Lucy Cotter (1973, IRL).
The day will be introduced by Janneke Wesseling (1955, NL), associate professor in art theory and art critic, and will end with a plenary session moderated by philosopher Leonhard de Paepe (1980, NL).
An important element of the festival is its continuous film programme related to the theme of the day. The films will be screened simultaneously at different locations throughout the academy. The programme includes works by, among others, Tiong Ang (1961, NL), Lonnie van Brummelen (1969, NL) & Siebren de Haan (1966, NL), Stephan Dillemuth (1954, DE), Sophie Ernst (1972, DE), Pantelis Makkas (1976, GR), Paulien Oltheten (1982, NL), Roy Villevoy (1960, NL) & Jan Dietvorst (1953, NL) and Italo Zuffi (1969, IT).
The festival will be concluded with a festive launch of the book See it Again, Say it Again. The Artist as Researcher, edited by Janneke Wesseling and published by Valiz, Amsterdam.
